Biker Movie Classics: THE BLACK ANGELS

Rated R; 87min; Director:Lawrence Merrick

Location: Alamo Downtown

For Republic Of Texas bike weekend, we have pulled two very special biker classics from the vaults. Join us for the roar of the classic bikes and fuzz guitar. Warning, neither of these films is the least bit politically correct or family friendly. You've been warned. Don't miss Saturday's biker classic ANGELS FROM HELL.

Any time a genre becomes wildly successful, as did the biker film genre after the success of WILD ANGELS and EASY RIDER, there are always tons of cheap little three day wonders that crop up to satisfy exhibitors' endless requests for bookings. With the right title and ad campaign even a movie as hilariously bad as THE BLACK ANGELS can be financially successful. Which is amazing, because THE BLACK ANGELS is just ludicrously terrible in every sense. Fortunately, it's so terrible that it really does start to kick ass on its own terms after a while. And before it's over you may find that you've developed a real affection for the unbelievably overblown biker dialogue, the terribly choreographed fights, the atrocious rock ballads and so on. It's a very special bad movie and it clearly deserves some kind of an award for badness in every department. Stunning. Features John King III, whom you may remember as the title character in the memorable PSYCHO FROM TEXAS. (Lars)
