This controversial sleeper, based on guest Tom Perrotta’s book of the same name, hit mainstream moviegoers like a ton of bricks. Audiences who saw it were floored by the controversial storyline and go-for-broke performances by such stars as Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connelly and especially Jackie Earle Haley. Haley and Winslet were nominated for Oscars and the film left an indelible impression on those who were lucky enough to catch it on the first go around.
