Dave Chappelles BLOCK PARTY

Rated R; Director:Michel Gondry  IMDB

Location: Alamo South Lamar

In late 2004 Dave Chapelle signed a now famous contract with Comedy Central that made him one of the richest men in show business. To celebrate he threw a little block party in Brooklyn. He invited a few of his friends to stop by and play music (Kanye West, The Roots, Eryka Badu, The reunited Fugees, Mos Def and others), and he hired director Michel Gondry (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND) to document the event, with Chappelle himself providing a very funny running commentary throughout. But that's only part of the film. It's also the story of how Chapelle organized the party and spread the word through the community, mostly by word of mouth but occasionally by resorting to a megaphone. We see Chapelle interacting with a large number of people, from the residents of his home town in Ohio to the members of the Bed Stuy community in Brooklyn where the concert takes place. And not surprisingly, it's very, very funny.

We'll have a full-on Dave Chapelle experience here at the Alamo, with the funniest Chapelle bits on screen before the movie. See you there, bitches.
