The Audible Picture Show

Location: Alamo South Lamar

Hot on the heels of successful trips to the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the Art Institute and the Third Coast Festival in Chicago, and the Warsaw Museum of Contemporary Arts (Poland), the Audible Picture Show, an unusual initiative from Edinburgh, Scotland, is proud to reach Texas with an inspiring presentation of audio-only "films" to be enjoyed, in darkness, in the comfort of a cinema. Compiled from a growing collection of works submitted by artists around the world, the show seeks to provide a remarkable and unique cinema experience, giving the mind's eye a gentle stretch. "We're aiming to highlight what's possible with audio alone, beyond what we might ordinarily hear on radio," explains the show's curator and presenter, Matt Hulse. "It's important to remember that our experience of the world is 'spatial'. We're informed and transformed by our environment & by the soundscape around us. With audio elements alone, it's possible to create a convincing 'place' in the darkness of a cinema, which the audience can be led through, can be positioned within, given a 'point of view' from which to experience events." The complete library of 55 audio pieces now includes works by esteemed animators Brothers Quay, Berlin artist/musician Momus, UK feature director Andrew Kotting, British architect and film maker Tony Hill; French visual artist Marcel Dinahet; radio producers/audio artist Mark Vernon and Scottish composer Max Richter. The presentation will also include work submitted by local artists. More information on participating artists will be posted as it becomes available.

Please note: There will be no wait service during the show itself. Orders will be picked up and dropped off before the show begins and the checks will be deposited during an intermission.
