THE AMBASSADOR
D. Erling Borgen 2005 58min BETA SP
This is a documentary about John Negroponte, a notorious Reagan-era Iran Contra figure. He has resurfaced to command unprecedented power as the director of National Intelligence (CIA and much more) and was recently given control over a security division within the FBI. His history in Central America, told in this documentary, is appalling. The INSIGHT staff has worked with this project for more than a year, in order to reveal how Mr. Negroponte was running brutal civil wars in Central America in the l980s. He ignored serious human rights violations and oversaw an embassy that smothered reporting of abuses committed by the Honduran military, an ally of the Reagan administration in the not-that-secret covert war against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua.
