BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK
Rated NR; 105min; Director:Damon Brown
Location: Alamo Downtown
For the first time ever, director Damon Brown goes behind the scenes of Burning man - exploring the philosophy that fuels it, the tireless efforts that drive it, and the transcendent experience that makes it a worldwide cultural force.
Shot over a period of 18 months, the film documents the journey of Burning man organizers and artists as they conceive, plan and create a city unlike any in the world. Each Summer, Black Rock is one of the largest cities in Nevada, with a population of over 30,000 and an infrastructure that provides everything from emergency services and electricity, to daily papers and radio broadcasts. For seven days and nights it stands as a community free of commerce, bound by a social contract of tolerance and cooperation, and dedicated to the transforming power of art and self expression.
And then it disappears, without a trace.
BEYOND BLACK ROCK reveals the impressive scale of the event, from the art pieces that pepper the barren landscape to the incredible pyrotechnics of the event's climax- the burning of The Man.
