Biker Movie Classics: ANGELS FROM HELL
Rated R; 86min; Director:Bruce Kessler
Location: Alamo Downtown
For Republic Of Texas bike weekend, we have pulled two very special biker classics from the vaults. Join us for the roar of the classic bikes and fuzz guitar. Warning, neither of these films is the least bit politically correct or family friendly. You've been warned. Don't miss Sunday's biker classic THE BLACK ANGELS.
Sleazy biker film about a Viet Nam vet biker who brings a little bit of the war home with him. The
great thing about these cheap early biker films is the fact that they used many real bikers in the cast, which
means A) lots of off-the-cuff vulgar improvisation and B) completely gonzo motorcycle stunts as the drunken
bikers try to out-macho one another. It takes a special kind of director to make a good movie under these
circumstances. If he's too restrictive the movie lacks the spontaneity it needs, but if he doesn't rein it in at all,
you just end up with a bunch of guys named "Acid" and "Pig" picking lice off each other for an hour and a
half. While ANGELS FROM HELL isn't exactly a
household name like EASY RIDER or THE WILD ANGELS, it manages to deliver the goods nicely. Featuring
Jack Starrett, Arlene (Spock's wife) Martel, and Dirty Denny as himself. Music by the Peanut Butter Conspiracy and (briefly) Lollipop Shoppe.(Lars)
