The name's Pancake. Master Pancake. This June, in honor of the Alamo's newly
acquired liquor license, Master Pancake Theater devalues GOLDFINGER (1964), the
movie that made "Shaken, not Stirred" a household phrase and single-handedly
popularized vodka martinis in the United States for years to come. Sean Connery
(whose James Bond comes a close second only to George Lazenby's) must foil a
scheme concocted by the absurdly named Auric Goldfinger to completely depreciate
the monetary system of the United States, a plan that--prior to George Bush--most
people thought impossible. At Goldfinger's side is a cavalcade of preposterous
henchmen, including Harold Sakata as Oddjob, whose cutting edge headgear
has 007 on the run, and Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore, the most ridiculously
named Bond Girl since Mounds O'Snatch in SHAMROCKS ARE FOREVER. One of the
drinkingest Bond films of all time, Goldfinger was cited by atomicmartini.com as
the LOST WEEKEND of Bond films, with a drink count that includes: 3 brandies, 1
port wine, 1 vodka martini, 1 mint julep, at least half a bottle of Dom Perignon '53,
and 1 undetermined liquor drink. And the Alamo bartenders will keep the spirits
flowing for you as you enjoy the show. Join Master Pancake
as we say Yay to Bond and Alas, poor Auric.
In honor of our new liquor license, we will be offering the original Bond martini, made to order using the exact recipe from Ian Fleming's first novel, Casino Royale!
"Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet.
Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon
peel. Got it?' I'm going to patent it when I can think of a good name.'
'Can I borrow it?' He explained about the special martini he had invented and
his search for a name for it. 'The Vesper,' he said. 'It sounds perfect and
it's very appropriate to the violet hour when my cocktail will now be drunk
all over the world. Can I have it?'"
You can have it too! (but only two...drink responsibly)
