THE CINEMA UNDER THE INFLUENCE SERIES VOL 3:
FILM COMPOSERS YO LA TENGO PRESENT
DARIO ARGENTO’S FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET
and John & Faith Hubley's Animated Short COCKABOODY
Mon Sept 17 - 9:00pm, South Lamar

I don’t need to tell you who Yo La Tengo are - their contribution to film soundtracks and scores speaks for itself (SHORT BUS, JUNEBUG, AMATEUR and even an episode of THE SIMPSONS!). We are greatly honored to have Yo La Tengo as our guests for the continuing CINEMA UNDER THE INFLUENCE series, where filmmakers, actors, composers and FX artists present the films that influenced them.

FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET
Italian horror maestro Dario Argento’s third giallo film (and the only one not available on domestic DVD) stars Argento-lookalike Michael Brandon (FM) as a rock drummer who gets framed for murder and finds himself in a bizarre game of cat and mouse with the psychotic person who set him up and continues to inexplicably torment him. Co-starring Italo-comedy staple Bud Spencer and the quintissential headcase Mimsy Famer (MORE, PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK), and featuring a wonderfully weird score by Ennio Morricone.

Plus: COCKABOODY
John Hubley was an animator for Disney during the days of SNOW WHITE, PINOCCHIO, and BAMBI. After he was blacklisted for refusing to name names before the House Committee on Un-American Activities, he shifted his focus to independent short films after moving to New York and marrying Faith Elliot, who became his partner and collaborator. The Hubleys’ animation would be familiar to anyone who has seen classic Electric Company and Sesame Street episodes from the early 1970s -- it had a distinct style that was low-key, a bit jittery, and often surreal. COCKABOODY features animated versions of their own children. Later, the older girl, Emily, followed in her parents’ footsteps, creating the animated sequences for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, and “Georgie,” the younger sister whose tantrum erupts into a green feline beastie, grew up to become Georgia Hubley of Hoboken - the drummer for Yo La Tengo!
