comedy troupe ColdTowne has assembled an all-star cast of award-winning local comedians and
videographers to bring forth their award-winning production, 3, 2, 1 Kill! to the award winning
Alamo Drafthouse screen. If you're counting, that's exactly four awards.
Out in Hollywood, they take months - even years - just to make one movie. The
improve maestros of Austin's own Coldtowne Theater only need ten minutes.
3, 2, 1 KILL is like stage improv with improvements, because instead of a bunch
of troupes coming up on the stage and attempting to convince you that they're
actually in far away lands, the troupes involved in these shows start out in the
theater, where they'll all hear the same audience suggestions to inspire their
long form improvised stories. But immediately after that, all of the performers
will run out of the theater, into downtown Austin, armed only with their wits,
their performer chops, and a video camera. One team will stay behind to start
performing a scene on the stage, then all of the other teams will turn in short,
segmented scenes as the night goes on. The different scenes will build into
different stories, and the different narratives from all the groups will continually
build on each other, until right at the end, when...
Well, you can never really say exactly what will happen with an improv show. But
I've been out to see Coldtowne many, many times, and I can tell you that at the
end of this show, my absolute favorite format they perform in, you'll be thrilled,
surprised, and slightly, embarrassingly... aroused.
