The Film:
Bandit and Cledus are two truck-driving good ol’ boys who accept a dare from Atlanta big-shots Big and Little Enos (Pat McCormick and Paul Williams) to pick up a truckload of Coors from Texas and return it to them within 28 hours. Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) and his recently left-at-the-altar son Junior (Mike Henry) will stop at nothing to thwart this plan. Everyone knows that Star Wars was the highest grossing movie of 1977. Less known, however, is that a very different film was nipping at its heels all summer long. The #2 grossing film of 1977 was good-ol’ boy comedy classic Smokey and the Bandit. Pontiac Firebird stock rose to new heights, mustaches were in and Burt Reynolds was at the absolute top of his game.

The Event:
The night before the Texarkana Drive-in screening of Smokey and the Bandit, we will be hosting a triple feature of Burt Reynolds classics at the Starlight Drive-in in Atlanta. Adventurous members of that crowd will meet at 8AM at the drive-in for a cross-country "Smokey and the Bandit" themed scavenger hunt, recreating the epic journey depicted in the film. Check out the description from Burt-athon 2007 for more information about the hunt.

The scavenger hunt teams from Atlanta will join the rest of us at the Four State Fair in Texarkana where we will have a temporary drive-in constructed, complete with FM transmitter so you can listen to the movie soundtrack on your car radio. Please note: the Four States Fair will be selling food and drink. No outside food or beverages are allowed at this screening.

We'll have a semi-truck full of Coors and a huge barrage of action-packed Burt Reynolds trailers before the film. Check back here for more details on the screening and the scavenger hunt.

Admission is free to this event, but if you are driving a Pontiac Firebird, you will get priority VIP seating and tickets to the Dewar's White Label after-party and on-site VIP tent.

Screening Address:
The Four State Fairgrounds
3700 East 50th Street
