The Film:

Middle-aged Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) is mistaken for a government agent by a gang of spies. He gets involved in a series of misadventures and is pursued across the States by both the spies and the government whilst being helped by a beautiful blonde.

A strong candidate for the most sheerly entertaining and enjoyable movie ever made by a Hollywood studio. Positioned between the much heavier and more profoundly disturbing Vertigo (1958) and the stark horror of Psycho (1960), North by Northwest (1959) is Alfred Hitchcock at his most effervescent in a romantic comedy-thriller that also features one of the definitive Cary Grant performances.

The Event:
For this free screening, we will be projecting North By Northwest in the amphitheater immediately in front of one of our nation's most spectacular wonders, Mt. Rushmore. As the climax of the film occurs, the actual monument will be looming in the background of the action on the screen.

at 9:00 PM, before the screening, visitors will see the famous evening lighting ceremony which last about 30 minutes. Immediately following the ceremony, we will begin with a reel of vintage Hitchcock trailers and then on to the film.
