Who knew that the entire world would fall in love with a talking pig? But a dozen years after its initial release, BABE is still the supreme barnyard charmer. The story of a bashful but earnest young porker who faces adversity, brings a farm together as a family and learns to herd sheep (!) came quietly from Australia to become one of the most enduring children’s films of the ‘90s. Our young hero’s friends are equally memorable: Ferdinand the duck (who thinks he’s a rooster), Babe’s sheepdog “mother” Fly, and no one will ever forget the gentle friendship between the animals and their quiet, beloved Farmer Hoggett. Despite the fact that it was written by the man behind the MAD MAX movies, BABE is an experience that anyone of any age can (and will without a doubt) enjoy.

Some say the film did more for vegetarianism and animal rights awareness than PETA and the Animal Liberation Front combined, and for this one-time event, Alamo chef Trish Eichelberger will be preparing a beautiful organic vegetarian feast, featuring produce from local farms and even local organic cheese. And when it’s done, you can lean back, pat your belly and say, “That’ll do, pig.”


Tentative menu for this event:

I) Beet, Apple and Pure Luck chevre galette on assorted greens with pomegranate champagne vinaigrette

II) Kale and Roasted Fennel Soup with Root vegetable chips and Spinach Coulis

III) Oyster mushrooms, Shady Lane
Sugar Snaps, Swiss chard, and Boggy Creek Smoke Dried Tomatoes on a bed of Fettuccine with a Meyer lemon, Basil and wine sauce

IV) Organic Chocolate and Spearmint Mousse Parfait
With Macadamia Nut Tuile
