It has been said that the French can't rock. And yet you'll rarely find a contemporary buzz-band that doesn't owe a certain debt to the Gallic visionary Serge Gainsbourg. Alternately considered one of the ugliest men in music and one of the sexiest men in music (depending on who you ask), Gainsbourg was the mastermind behind the French ye-ye fad of the 60's, and his magnetism won him the attention of a stable of gorgeous female singers that included Brigitte Bardot, Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin and Marianne Faithfull and the expert production talents of frequent collaborator Philippe Lerichomme. Come bask in the glory of Serge as we pull out some of his rarest scopitones and television appearances. Highlights include the video for Lemon Incest (his controversial duet with pre-teen daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg), his propositioning of a shocked Whitney Houston on live television, and the infamous Melody Nelson TV Special, which sees his pivotal concept album hilariously animated and performed by Gainsbourg and longtime partner Jane Birkin.
