THE CHRISTMAS POPS! SING-ALONG

For the past four years, one of our favorite December traditions has been the Christmas Pops Sing-Along, and every year this show just keeps getting better and better. In the beginning, it was a simple concept - we took music videos of pop stars singing their own Holiday Hits or, more frequently, their cover versions of classic carols (because that has got to be the easiest way to make money once you're famous). The videos in the collection range from the sublime perfection of Wham's "Last Christmas" to the hilariously horrendous version of "Jingle Bells" as sung by the Olsen twins when they were 8 years old (it has a rap breakdown in the middle, though, so you know it's radical).

From there, we started adding in some special audience participation during the intro and various intermission breaks throughout the show, with games based on holiday specials and some Rudolph Videoke (think karaoke but with acting instead of singing) and fun stuff like that. Then a few years ago we built on the most popular addition to any show ever - we took the entire crowd from the theater out onto the streets of Austin for some good old-fashioned caroling, except with new-fashioned songs.

Those Renegade Caroling hijinx climaxed in an amazing moment last year when the good people at Esther's Follies made the folly of inviting us in to perform on their stage after seeing us pressed up against the glass and singing to people who we knew couldn't hear us. When we were outside, we sang some wholesome Mariah Carey. Once we were on stage? We went straight into "Dick In A Box." What sort of holiday madness will we add in this year?
