Rolling Roadshow FAQ

FAQs - How the ROLLING ROADSHOW works:

The following is general information about our events. These FAQs will be accurate most of the time, but you should look for specific notes in each event's description for any minor or major variations.

GENERAL

What is the Rolling Roadshow?
The Rolling Roadshow is the mobile branch of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. We show movies outdoors in all manner of spaces, from the bottom of a cave (The Goonies), to the middle of a lake (Jaws), to a private backyard movie party. We have a variety of screen sizes and projection systems to meet almost any scenario. The Rolling Roadshow also sets out each summer for a nationwide tour (The Rolling Roadshow Tour) of famous movies in famous places.
Where do I pick up my pre-purchased tickets?
Unless otherwise noted, Rolling Roadshows never require printed tickets. If you have purchased your tickets in advance online or from a box office, all the purchaser needs to do is bring a valid photo ID and the credit card they used to the screening site. If someone has given you tickets as a gift, they must print out their receipt and sign it over to you to bring to the screening along with your valid photo ID. On the day of the Roadshow, just look for the yellow 'Event Check-In' banner and we'll have a list of ticket holders waiting. It is always a good idea to print a copy of your online purchase receipt.
Where do events take place?
Unless otherwise noted, all Rolling Roadshows are outside, and often in remote locations. Part of the fun for you and for us is creating cinema viewing in places you might never imagine. Bring good walking shoes and bug spray can be invaluable!
What do we sit on during the screening?
We rarely provide seating. You are encouraged to bring quilts, ground clothes, camping chairs, or the like for your comfort. Recently we even had a group bring an entire couch! For the Rolling Roadshow Tour, we will have chairs and blankets available for sale. Puchase of these blankets and chairs helps pay for this series of free screenings.
What time will the screening actually start?
We can't start projecting until its pretty dark. That means about 30 - 45 minutes past the beginning of sunset. Over the course of the summer that ends up being between 800p and 915p. Check your favorite weather site for night specific information or go to the Navy's site (that's what we do). The actual movie start time should be listed in all Rolling Roadshow descriptions.
What do I need to bring?
Think of attending a Rolling Roadshow as though you were going to an outdoor evening BBQ. Cash, Sturdy Shoes, Camping Chairs, Quilts, Flashlights, Light Jackets, Bug Spray, would all be good things to bring.
Do details about events ever change?
Yes. Though we strive to get all aspects locked in place before we even announce our Roadshows, things can sometimes change beyond our control. We recommend checking the event's web page periodically for new updates. We also urge everyone to at least make a last minute visit to the website before leaving for the event - especially if you are coming from out of town.

AMENITIES

Will there be food and beverages available?
There will generally be food and generally both beer and non-alcoholic drinks at concession stands for purchase. Check the specific event description for more details on food and drink.
What about food for Vegetarians?
If there's food, there will be at least one veggie option and maybe several depending on the scale of the event.
Will there be toilets?
Yes. Though they are often PortaJohns, we will always provide public toilets that are handicap accessible.
Where do I park?
Each event is different, but rest assured parking for Roadshows will either be obvious or there will be specific instructions/maps for parking on-site. Parking is not always immediately adjacent to the screening location, so be prepared to walk a bit. The Rolling Roadshow is not responsible for the security of your vehicle or any possessions left in it.
Will there be ATMs on-site?
Generally no. Please bring cash with you. Allowing ~$20 per person should be plenty of cash to cover a single-film evening. There are also often opportunities to purchase merchandise so you might want to augment your funds for that as well. On the Rolling Roadshow Tour, when we have cell phone coverage, we will have credit card processing available for tour merchandise.

POLICIES

Do I need my ID?
Yes. If you are of legal age and would like to drink during the events you must have your ID. Anyone - no matter how mature they appear - without a valid ID that shows them to be over the age of 21 will be marked at the gate as a Minor and be refused any attempts to purchase or consume alcohol. Anyone attempting to alter or remove a Minor marking, consume alcohol with Minor markings, or provide alcohol to someone with Minor markings will be ejected from the event without a refund.
Can we bring our own Alcohol into events?
As a general rule - No. Due to TABC regulations most Roadshows will not allow outside alcohol. If this policy is in effect, violators will be ejected without a refund!!
(Note: There are times when we hold events in dry counties or for other reasons we may choose to allow BYOB - we'll indicate any variations on a case-by-case basis. But for legal and logistical reasons we will abide by this as the generic policy unless specifically stated otherwise in an event's listing.)
Can we bring our own Food into events?
As a general rule - No.
(Note: Similar to the Alcohol Policy - There have been Roadshows in the past which allowed outside food, and there certainly will be again in the future. But for logistical reasons we will abide by this as the generic policy unless specifically stated otherwise in an event's listing.)
Can we bring still or video cameras?
Under most circumstances we encourage you to bring still cameras to document what is often a full day of fun or even a great moment like meeting a cinema legend. Even video cameras may often be allowed. Keep your eyes open for special warnings. If we are fortunate enough to be bringing you a sneak preview or premiere event camera policies get serious. Please be warned that in this day of serious media bootlegging, the studios are equally serious about protecting their property. They are often sending private security teams, and even equipping them with night vision goggles to try and catch violators. If we say, "No Cameras." We strongly urge you not to risk having it taken away from you.
Can I use my Credit Card for general purchasing?
As a general rule, no. If there is an exception it will be listed in the specific event description. On the Rolling Roadshow Tour, when we have cell phone coverage, we will have credit card processing available for tour merchandise.
What if it rains before the event?
Roadshows will generally have alternate locations as 'rain cover,' or alternate dates will be scheduled. Check the event's webpage on the day of the Roadshow to see if there have been any updates in this regard. It is important to note that most events will not be cancelled due to rain, and this also means that most tickets will not be refunded if it rains. Please keep this in mind before purchasing your tickets.
What if it rains during the event?
This will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Will there be Walk-Up Tickets?
Roadshows often sell out via the online sales, so we encourage you to buy in advance. If the show sells out then we will note that on the webpage, otherwise tickets will be available on-site for cash purchasing.
Are 'In & Outs' allowed?
For your own safety, we strongly discourage coming and going from the defined venue of a given event.

WHO CAN ATTEND

Can I attend a Roadshow if I'm a minor?
Minors can only attend events if they are over 6 and accompanied by a guardian. Kid-Friendly "Movies in the Park" screenings are open to all ages.
Are Roadshows accessible to wheelchairs?
We do what we can to allow for access, and most often if you've brought your 'off-road' wheelchair you should be good to go. But because the events are outdoors and sometimes at remote locations you should check with us before purchasing your tickets.
Can I bring my kids?
Like most things Alamo, Roadshows are primarily adult oriented events, but your 6yo+, well-supervised children are welcome. They must have a full priced ticket. There are no special facilities for kids. You are solely responsible for their care and safety. Also, please be aware that some of the programming has mild to strong adult content
Can I bring my dog?
Generally no, but this will be a case-by-case determination. When approved, we do require that your dog be kept on a lead, and you should also be prepared to "clean-up" after him or her. Any dog antics that interfere with other guest's (or guest's dogs) ability to enjoy a Roadshow will require the pet to immediately be retired to your car.
